This week I carried out an insurance condition survey on a CNB Bordeaux 60 located in Preveza, Greece.
The Bordeaux 60 is one of those yachts that immediately stands apart from many production-built cruising yachts. Designed by Philippe Briand and built by CNB in Bordeaux, France, these yachts were aimed at owners seeking true blue-water capability combined with luxury accommodation and high-quality engineering.
One feature that often attracts attention is the yacht's structural engineering. CNB utilised an aluminium structural framework bonded into the hull to distribute rigging and keel loads throughout the vessel. This differs from the more traditional moulded grid systems found in many production yachts and contributes to the Bordeaux 60's reputation for strength and offshore capability.

As this was an insurance survey, the vessel remained afloat throughout the inspection. Although the underwater hull could not be examined externally, extensive access was obtained throughout the interior structure, machinery spaces, technical compartments, bilges and accommodation areas.
The vessel presented exceptionally well. Internal structural components, bulkheads, floors, bonding arrangements and accessible hull surfaces were found to be in good condition with no evidence of structural movement, impact damage or significant water ingress.
The yacht had clearly benefited from ongoing maintenance and upgrading over recent years. Notable improvements included modern lithium battery installations, comprehensive navigation electronics, generator systems, air conditioning and watermaker equipment suitable for extended offshore cruising.
Documentation provided during the survey confirmed that the standing rigging had been completely renewed in 2022 using Dyform stainless steel wire and new Blue Wave terminals. This represents a significant investment and is always a positive finding on a yacht of this size and capability.
One of the most impressive aspects of the Bordeaux 60 remains the balance between performance and comfort. Despite offering luxurious accommodation and substantial tankage, these yachts retain excellent sailing characteristics and have developed a strong reputation among serious cruising sailors.

Only minor routine maintenance items were identified during the inspection and no significant defects affecting insurability were noted.
For insurers, condition surveys are an important tool in assessing risk and confirming that a vessel continues to be maintained to an appropriate standard. For owners, they also provide valuable reassurance regarding the overall condition of the yacht and can often highlight maintenance items before they become costly repairs.
If you require an insurance survey, pre-purchase survey or valuation survey in Greece, including Preveza, Lefkada, Corfu, Kefalonia and throughout the Ionian Islands, please get in touch.
