It has been another busy and rewarding period here in the Ionian, with a wide range of yacht surveys recently completed across Cleopatra Marina, Ionion Marine, and Lefkada. Each assignment brings its own challenges and insights, reflecting the diversity of yachts now cruising or stored ashore in Greece. Below is a selection of my most recent pre-purchase and condition surveys.
The Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40 “Aurora” underwent a full pre-purchase condition survey ashore at Cleopatra Marina. This multihull was inspected in detail, including hull moisture testing, deck core sampling, and a full inventory cross-check. The vessel was found in excellent order overall, representing a well-maintained example of this popular cruising catamaran.
A Lagoon 39 “Salty Dog”, also at Cleopatra Marina, was surveyed on behalf of an overseas buyer. The inspection covered all structural, mechanical, and electrical systems, including the twin saildrives, steering gear, and composite structures. The vessel presented well, with only minor recommendations noted.

The Moody 45AC Classic, a 2016 model designed by Bill Dixon, was another highlight. This luxury blue-water yacht was surveyed in Preveza and demonstrated the high standard of Moody craftsmanship. The deep-fin keel, high-gloss mahogany interior, and Fischer Panda generator installation were all examined, with the yacht found in very good condition throughout.
At Ionion Marine, a Nauticat 331 “Cvtch” (2005) received a comprehensive pre-purchase survey. Attention was given to the underwater profile, steering systems, and teak deck condition. Moisture testing and percussion sounding confirmed sound laminate integrity, with only minor cosmetic attention recommended before relaunch.

Further multihull work included a Fountaine Pajot Saona 47, inspected ashore for a UK client. The hulls and bridgedeck were moisture tested, stern gear and rudders examined, and minor stress cracking near the anchor roller noted for monitoring. The general standard of maintenance was good, and the vessel presented as ready for extended cruising.
Several monohulls were also inspected recently, including a Bavaria 34 “Firefly” at Lefkas Marina and a Hanse 455 “Amati”, both surveyed for private buyers. These yachts reflected the typical Ionian brokerage market—well-used charter craft being purchased by private owners, each requiring detailed attention to structural integrity, rig condition, and safety systems.

Larger blue-water yachts such as the Moody Eclipse 43 and Shearwater 45 “Peperuka” were also inspected at Cleopatra and Ionion respectively, with emphasis on engine installations, keel attachment, and onboard systems. Both were found in solid order, benefitting from conscientious maintenance and ongoing upgrades.
Additional assignments this season have included a Beneteau Oceanis 45 and a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 349, each surveyed for buyers from northern Europe. These vessels reflect the continued strength of the Greek brokerage market and the importance of independent pre-purchase inspections for buyers purchasing abroad.
Each of these surveys was carried out in accordance with the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) codes of practice, employing recognised methods including moisture metering, percussion sounding, and close visual inspection of all accessible areas. Reports were issued with full recommendations, prioritised according to safety and maintenance importance.
With the winter haul-out season now approaching, bookings for pre-purchase and insurance surveys are continuing across the Ionian marinas of Cleopatra, Aktio, and Ionion.
